The Dowina GD is their take on the historic OM body shape. It's slightly narrower in depth on the waist making it extremely comfortable to hold. It's a touch smaller than the Grand Auditorium body being a good alternative to any GA if you want something a little smaller without sacrificing any bottom end in the tone.
Padauk is a wonderful tonewood with tonal similarities to the iconic Brazilian Rosewood. The depth in the low end that Padauk produces is something you don't get from Indian Rosewoods, the most common substitute for Brazilian Rosewood these days. It's an extremely well-balanced tone with a lush bass end and crisp highs. The density of Padauk is very high meaning the resonance goes on for ages and you get a wonderful reverb-type feel from the sustain.
This master series Dowina also sports a thermo-treated Swiss spruce top. thermo treatment artificially ages the wood to help crystalise the glycerin and other natural sugars within the wood giving it far more sustain, resonance and increased harmonic content. This is why people love early Martins because of their naturally aged woods. If you want something that compares to that tonality but without an excessive price tag then this thermo-treated Dowina is a great alternative.
What Dowina say
"Padauk is an extremely responsive wood, and its metallic reverberation makes it distinctly different in sound from other guitars. It holds the bass while accentuating the trebles. We adore this guitar and combined with the Thermo-treated spruce top, it’s one of our most popular models."
